The Lonely Lunch Box

Here it is, all alone at the bottom of the box: a final unsold copy of Vegan Lunch Box. Yes, I've turned off my ordering buttons and closed up shop, ready to devote myself full time to shmoo's third grade year.

But don't despair, vegan lunch fans! I'm excited to report that a brand new, completely revised edition of Vegan Lunch Box will be coming out from Da Capo Lifelong Books in March 2008.

The book is being completely redesigned (by professionals, even!) It will include all the recipes from the original plus brand new menus and recipes I created especially for the new edition. The best part is that the book will now be widely available in bookstores across the country, instead of being distributed one at a time out of a basement in eastern Washington. Check back for more information and a glimpse of the new cover some time in the next few months.

If you would still like to get your hands on a copy of the original, self-published edition, copies are still available over at Laptop Lunches. Order one while supplies last, or hunker down and wait for spring.

Congratulations on your success with the book! I look forward to adding the new edition to my collection next Spring. (And in the mean time I am enjoying the original edition).

I think I must have bought one of the very last copies, then. Mine arrived a week ago and I have been carrying it around everywhere (even to work!) excitedly showing people. I LOVE it. I can't even describe how wonderful it is. :D

Oh, that's great news! (Will the new edition be available in Canada as well, do you know yet? That's why I didn't buy the first book, there was no international shipping available.)

Cheers!

Woo hoo! Distribution and everything! That is great news. I'm happy to have one of the 'original' VLB editions!

We just started 1st grade with our daughter. Hope 3rd is fun for you and shmoo!

I'm not quite sure how I stumbled upon you, but Yay for me!! Firstly, I grew up near Kennewick, so it was fun to see someone from a place I've been to.

Secondly, I just recently ordered a laptop lunchbox for my son, who starts 1st grade on Wednesday. I printed off many of their yummy lunches from the website...will have to see if they have one of your books left.

We are not vegetarians/vegans, although we do deal with some food allergies/sensitivities in our household.(gluten/dairy/soy) We are slowly making more and more healthful changes to our life---which includes some meals that are vegetarian and vegan. My mom recently started eating a vegetarian diet after going throught the CHIP program (there in your area). She sends me many recipes to try and my kids are happy to eat them.

I could go on and on, obviously, but I'll just plan to keep coming back and checking things out. Great, informative blog!

I can't tell you how excited I was to see a new post. I'm new to the vegitarian world and am trying to be vegan. Not the easiest transition in a house/family full of meat eaters. :)

Congrats on the sucess of the Vegan Lunchbox. I'll keep my eye out on the book shelfs for the new eddition.

Congratulations on the success of the book! I'm sure it will be beautiful in the new edition, but I also love it in the current edition. I think the layout is friendly and easy to use.

And, I hope by the time the new one comes out I'll have thought of someone else who needs one!

Congratulations! This is such good news. I'm still holding out hope that you'll start another personal blog to tell us about everyday life in the Shmoo household, though! :-)

Ah, Vegan Lunch Box, we love you so. With two in school now, it becomes handier by the day. Can't wait for the revised edition, and whatever you have in store for us all in the future.

Hi there,

I am doing a demonstration at the Maker Faire in Austin, TX on bento boxes (http://www.makerfaire.com/pub/e/745). Although the description doesn't say it all of the bentos will actually be vegan. I can't seem to find contact info for you but would love to chat and/or invite you to share my booth. Please email me at kayobi@gmail.com.

Very best regards,
Kayobi

Congratulations! The book really deserves wide distribution. My family has some very favorites from your book.

How about a homeschooling blog? I'm about ready to pull my son out of public school and the support would be nice!

Take care and best of luck!

Congratulations on the book and good luck homeschooling. You'll love it!

Please, PLEASE tell me that when you said that the revised edition in 2008 will be "...widely available in bookstores across the country..." you meant that it will be widely available in bookstores across North America. As a Canadian who loves your website, I would really like to be able to buy your book without borrowing someone's credit card, or mailing stuff away.

Keep up the good work!!!!

Hi there,

I got your book in July and have been cooking with it all summmer and LOVE it! I've been showing all my friends and having them taste the yummy recipes I've made. The cauliflower soup is a particular hit!

I'm a little bummed though, that right after I bought the book you announced there's another print.

Will the new recipes be available as a supplement for those who just got the old book?

Take care,
Rachael

Hi,
congratulations on your success, would just like to let you know that if you want your book translated into Brazilian Portuguese, fell free to contact me - I´ve been a professional translator for over 10 years. I´ve become aware that some people are thinking about translating your book (I saw this info at Orkut.com ) and I wonder if they even thought about contacting you.
I'm a vegetarian for almost 24 years.
Best Regards
Adriana

I just wanted to say I found your blog recently and love it! As a homeschool mom myself, with children the age of your son, I'm wondering if you'll be using your creative energy at all to blog about your homeschooling ideas and adventures? I for one would love to see what you come up with! Also, I find it challenging to come up with lunches that are quick, yummy and healthy/vegan to make with a homeschooling schedule - I've actually used many of your recipes (minus the lunchbox!). I'd also be delighted to follow along with your "school to home lunch transition process"! I look forward to buying your cookbook in March - I have it marked in my planner! Best Wishes... susan

as a homeschool mama, i'm thrilled to learn you'll be homeschooling your little guy. i'm so bummed that you're giving up the bento box gig! between parkdays, field trips, and going to friends' houses...we pack lunches 3-5 times a week! my guy is going to be 10 in a few months, and loves fun lunches. i hope you come back to us soon. head over to homeschoolla.org if you need homeschool info.

I didn't know there were vegans in Kennewick! I moved here a year ago and it seemed an unlikely prospect. Do you ever go to Chamomile Garden? They have the most amazing vegan oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and some vegan lunches.

Best wishes,

Christy

I walked into Mirador Community Store in Portland today, and there was a copy of the self-published Vegan Lunch Box! So if anyone still wants one of those you could get it there.

I absolutley LOVE YOUR BLOG. You are so amazing!! and creative. I love being creative with what I make and very concious of healthy foods as well. I am a beginner at veganism, but very willing and accepting of trying new things and making new things. I do like buying quick easy vegan foods as well though. But GOSH!! I just love your lunch boxes, for myself, no kid here!! haha. :) Thanks for your great blogs about all of your lunch boxes you made to share with the world. Such a great hardworking person to put all of this together!! Your very deserving!!

I'm trying to find an easier way to make vegan bisquits.... having a hard time though. I'm a sucker for store bought things. But it looks like I might just have to make these myself : (

I hope you'll post more soon!!! Maybe just a few times? : )
Thank you again for all your hard work made into your page!! So thankful for it!! I've learned so much.
