Beans-n-Dawgs

Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments below! Today it's a simple lunch, but one of Little shmoo's favorites: vegetarian baked beans and veggie dog slices in a warm thermos. Square baked pita chips are in the lunch box with an organic orange, cucumber and edamame, and an apple-raspberry "Just Fruit" bar.
Verdict: Hearty and filling on a rainy, grey day. He ate everything but a bit of the cucumber. 4 stars.

  5. Edamame rule! You can sprinkle them with some salt or garlic salt if you like, but they're lovely plain.

Here's a website that talks about the "Just Fruit" bars:

They recently appeared at our local health food store; I don't know if they're a new product or a Pacific Northwest thing.

  6. Your "simple lunch" looks pretty fancy compared to the lunches I grew up with - Vegemite and cheese sandwiches every school day of my life!

They are made in the Pacific Northwest (North Bonneville, WA) by Gorge Delights-----looks like you can order directly from them. Check it out: gorgedelights.com

  8. I, like Little shmoo, love veg baked beans with veg hot dogs! My sis and I ate them all the time when I lived at home and now I've got my boyfriend liking it as well. Yummy!

  11. Thanks, Rosemary.

I'm with you, Harmonia, there are so many different varieties of beans and different ways to prepare them. We eat them almost every day and never get tired of them!

Hi, anonymous -- the baked pita chips are purchased. They're one of my new favorite late night snacks. We buy them in enormous bags from Costco.

I just found your blog. It's fabulous. My little guy isn't in school yet but we're trying some of the ideas anyway.

Having trouble finding a yummy veggie dog, can you recommend one.
