Here's my recipe for Tofu Fish Sticks. I've been experimenting and finally came up with a recipe I'm satisfied with -- they're crunchy and crispy and just a wee bit fishy (kelp granules, dill, and lemon juice, ta da!). So it's tofu fish, tater tots, ketchup, a chocolate rice milk and banana pudding, and two Aplets (last of the Christmas gift goodies) for dessert.
Verdict: Every single bite got eaten, with a request for more of those "tasty fish" when he got home. 5 stars.
Yay! Free recipes.
ReplyDeleteThat lunch looks mighty delicious.
That reeeeeeeeally makes me want fish sticks and I don't DO fish sticks. Because. You know. Ew.

ReplyDeleteWhat kind of tater tots do you use? We're getting very close to trying copies of some lunches - different food is a really big deal with Miss Picky. She's not vegan yet, but she really leans that way, so I wil encourage it for all I'm worth.

Thanks so much for sharing the recipe for the Tofu Fish Sticks...I had been wondering about them. I can find kelp powder but not kelp granules..think it will work? Sigh..wish you were fixing my lunches!!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so much better than Tuno! :-)
ReplyDeleteYum-o! I can't wait to try these! I had been hoping to find a healthier alternative to fish sticks, since my kids really like them. :)
ReplyDeleteRight on Becca. Looks like Whole Foods Tater Tots, are they? I like those and they have apple juice in them.
ReplyDeletetasty tasty!! thanks for the recipes.
ReplyDeleteHi, miss picky's mom (love it!) -- I use Cascadian Farms organic tater tots.
ReplyDeleteHi, dee -- yes I did, thank you so much! Sorry it takes me a while to answer emails and comments sometimes. I keep trying to keep up but sometimes I get overwhelmed. WOO HOO on the Brussels sprouts!
Hi, jane -- I think kelp powder should work just fine. Experiment and let me know how it goes!
The to-fish look great!! I'm going to try this for sure. I used to try and make fish "skins" with Nori sheets and tofu sheets, but that's for a different type of thing altogether, & I haven't quite perfected that method. Anyway, found your blog through vegan outreach and love it. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAfter the rave review (and my longing for fish sticks), I gave these a try--finally found some kelp powder. Anyway they were good, but mine weren't very crunchy, which was disappointing. Perhaps it's because I didn't have parchment paper? I just oiled a baking sheet and put them on it directly.

ReplyDeleteThese were wonderful. Everyone in my "blended family", from my omnivore hubby to my vegan daughter, loved this recipe.
ReplyDeleteI want to thank you for posting recipes on the net. I am always hesitant to buy a new vegan cookbook. Asking myself, "will I make enough items to justify the price?" Posting your recipes (BTW, every one I've tried has been great) allowed me to try a few first. I bought your cookbook and Vegetarian Times yesterday. Thank you!
