The Magical Mystery Loaf

Leonard over at Crummy has created something I don't think is crummy at all: a Mystery Loaf Generator that uses the Magical Loaf Studio to generate and name a brand new loaf every five minutes.

The amazing thing is, every loaf I've seen so far actually sounds good! Now, as Leonard says, "you'll never be loaflorn" again.

  1. This looks so cool! The only thing that would make it better would be the ability to email the recipe to myself so I could make it later.

  2. Nicole -- you can bookmark the loaf, there's a link to do that at the bottom.

It's cool, but the name generator could use some work, the one that came up first for me was the "cystogastrostomy loaf" -- it's not a tasty thought. Funny, though, which I suppose was the point.

    cyst/o- = bladder or sac
    gastr/o- = stomach
    -ostomy = opening (mouth like)

So a cystostomy would be the surgical formation of an opening into the urinary bladder, and a gastrostomy would be the surgical construction of an opening from the abdominal wall into the stomach (usually for inserting a feeding tube). I don't think there's much chance they'd actually combine them into a opening from the bladder to the stomach (fortunately).

  5. Hey Jennifer!
I've tried the loaf a few times now, with great results. Last night I made one with rice, lentils and tomato juice and put it in a pie pastry ( I loved the look of those Wellingtons you made a while back) to make a little hand pie--fantastic!

  6. I think the loaf generator is too funny. I've already peaked at it 5-6 times. And each of my kids have generated there own magical loaf (but I wonder if they will actually taste it). I like the pie shell idea above, and I thought of a few more ingredient choices (i'm sure there are millions): hemp seeds, salsa, adzuki beans, and leftover pasta. Not altogether mind you..well, maybe... Thanks for all the fun.

  9. I printed out "The Magical Loaf Studio" menu back when you originally posted it. Yesterday, I decided to give it a go, and didn't notice until I had stared dumping stuff that there were no quantities. AFTER making the loaf, I went to your loaf studio & discovered that if you fill in choices & submit. Then, it'll show the recipe, quantities, cooking time, etc. I just figured this out! DOH! So, anyhow, my first loaf was a dud. But I'll try again cuz this is brilliant.

    I used:

    Smart Ground
Hemp Seed Nuts (not on the menu)
    Uncooked Quick Oatmeal
    Onion
    Canned Black Beans with Liquid
    Flaxseed Meal
    Vegetable Oil
    Cumin
    Bragg's (not on the menu)

Is there something wrong with the loaf generator link? :(

  12. Yes, unfortunately the loaf generator will be down until I can get my soon-to-be-ex-husband to provide the information I need to move my website to a new server. It was on his server before, and he took it off when we split.
