Hot Cocoa

I made some soymilk cocoa this morning and packed it in his thermos (I had to trim the straw to fit in the lunch box). Little shmoo drank the cocoa and nibbled on three little powdered sugar- covered cookies made with strawberry jam. The rest is rather ordinary (with cocoa and cookies as the treat, who needs a fancy lunch?): organic applesauce, baby carrots, and a peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwich on oat bread.
Verdict: Just crusts and two carrots left. 4 stars.

Hi Jennifer!

I love the idea of warm cocoa for lunch on these cold days... ultimate comfort food along with a pb&j sandwich. Toasty warm yumminess! What a great mom you are. :)

Yum! I think that I will have to start making hot cocoa to take to work from time to time. That really does seem like quite the treat. PB&J on oat bread sounds really yummy too.

i am hooked on this blog! I get great ideas for my boyfriends lunches! :)

I will be so sad to see the posts go when christmas break comes...
Could you still make lunchboxes for shmoo to eat at home? ;)

Great work! Can't wait for the book to come out!

Take care!

I am a big fan of hot cocoa since it started getting cold. I love to make it with Silk's Very Vanilla Soy Milk. It is fortified for kids (I'm a big kid) and its yummy.

I found your blog awhile ago and LOVE it! I went through all of your archives. My kids and I check in nearly everyday to see what Shmoo had for lunch! :-)

I just found your site. My family is ready to become vegan and I was looking for great lunches to pack for my husband. I actually typed in a search for "Vegan Lunch Box" hoping to fing something and THERE YOU WERE! I'm so excited to know you are sharing such great info with everyone. Thank you so much. I look forward to checking out your blog regularly. Maybe I can actually get my little guy to eat too! He saw the picture of the napkins and got very excited. He's 3 1/2 and a very picky eater.

Jennifer, we're all starting to get excited knowing that you are working away on the book. I keep think of things that I hope you'll include (besides tips on feeding the omni/vegan family):

The Vegan Cupboard -- your variety is amazing, girl. What does your pantry look like! I imagine it is the vegan equalvalent of Oprah's closet.

Your dinner menus for:

Birthday Dinner
Holiday Dinner (Christmas (or what have you), Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, etc.

Celebration Dinners, etc.

What do you do with leftovers?

We are with you and can't wait for the launch. So although this is going to be the Vegan Lunchbox, addressing a little about dinner would be great too.

Thank you for this blog. What a great job you are doing. Eric's Diner gave you a shout out on his podcast. I can say two thumbs up.

im vegetarian, not vegan, and sorry, hot chocolate made with soy milk is awful and not worth drinking.

Ron, I think you need to try different kinds of soy milk before condemning them all. Some I don't like, some I'll drink pure...they don't all taste the same!
